10 July 2027 – a date for your diary!
On the evening of Saturday 10 July next year, Chordiality will be joined by the National Festival Orchestra to perform Mozart’s famous Requiem Mass in D minor in the beautiful acoustic and setting of Bradford Cathedral.
The work, celebrated the world over, was last performed by Chordiality in 2018, again in the Cathedral, and is a piece that seems to reach out to audience members like no other.
It is regarded by many as one of the greatest choral works ever written, and even though completed by other composers, it still resonates with people due to its wonderful melodies, its dramatic nature and its ability to communicate so profoundly with all types of music lovers.
Rehearsals on the Requiem will commence after Christmas and the choir’s Music Director Peter Sherlock can’t wait to get started.
“I personally love the music. It has an intensity whilst also being able to communicate the drama of a requiem to its listeners. It never really goes out of fashion,” said Peter.
“It isn’t often performed with full orchestra in such a beautiful setting and acoustic as the Cathedral. Given the size of the National Festival Orchestra and the size of the choir, at 40 plus singers, we will be using numbers which Mozart probably had in mind when composing the piece.
“It is a work which seems to bring out the best in choirs and is a joy to simply rehearse, perfect and perform.”
