Great turnout, great concert

Another packed house greeted the singers this time at St Barnabas’ Church in Heaton.

Admission to the concert was free of charge as a gesture to provide those who couldn’t attend the July Cathedral concert with an opportunity to see and hear the choir on home soil in Bradford.

The feedback from those attending has been tremendously positive and very complimentary, not just about the programme in general but also about the choir’s high standard of singing.

Quite a few members of the audience hadn’t heard the choir before and said how much they want to come and hear the singers again.

The choir opened with the well-known O Fortuna from Carl Orff’s dramatic cantata Carmina Burana in a programme that also included popular classics The Heaven’s Are Telling from Haydn’s oratorio The Creation and the ever-popular Chorus Of The Hebrew Slaves from Verdi’s Nabucco.

Particular favourites with the audience were the a cappella rendition of Cornish folk song There’s Nothing Like Pilchards For Saving The Soul, Richard Smallwood’s celebrated gospel ballad Total Praise and the performance of the Caccini’s Ave Maria featuring flautist Rosie Walsh.

Rosie and the choir performed the Ave Maria, arranged by Patrick M Liebergen, for a recording made in 2021 which appears on the choir’s YouTube site.  Such has been the popularity of the piece that the recording has now accumulated almost 10,000 views – not bad for a small Bradford choir.
