Chordiality’s Summer Spectacular Gala Concert

Saturday 12 July at 7.30pm in Bradford Cathedral

– Chordiality are delighted to be sharing the stage with the National Festival Orchestra for a spectacular concert of choral and orchestral classics in Bradford Cathedral.

Top of the bill on the evening will be a performance of Gabriel Fauré’s famous Requiem in D minor to a score edited by John Rutter.  Written by the composer as a musical tribute to his deceased father, the work comprises some of the most beautiful melodies that Fauré ever wrote.  Of all seven sections, the Pie JesuAgnus Dei and In Paradisum emerge as the most glorious refrains of the piece.

To accompany the Requiem, the evening’s repertoire will also include such delights as How Lovely Are Thy Dwells by Brahms, The Heavens Are Telling from Haydn’s oratorio The Creation, Verdi’s famous Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves and a bit of Handel’s Messiah for good measure.

On the day, Chordiality is delighted to be joined again by the National Festival Orchestra, under their leader Sally Robinson.  The National Festival Orchestra Strings previously performed with Chordiality two years ago again at Bradford Cathedral in a concert to celebrate the choir’s 30th anniversary.

At the concert, both choir and orchestra will be under the baton of Chordiality’s Music Director Peter Sherlock who is delighted to be taking the singers back to the Cathedral for what will be another marvellous occasion.

“The Cathedral has superb acoustics and the sound that resonates within this building will add a significant dimension to a choral piece as sublime and beautiful as the Fauré Requiem,” said Peter.

“We are thrilled to have obtained the services of the excellent and much in demand National Festival Orchestra and that we will also be joined by Graham Thorpe, the Cathedral’s Organist and Director of Music.  Together, choir, orchestra and organ will make for a substantial and enjoyable evening of some of the greatest choral music ever composed.”
