\u201cA very good concert, very musical, good attention to detail and our singers worked well together as a choir, both collectively and as individual sections.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe current programme is challenging for the choir because of the variety of styles of music.\u00a0 Jumping from style to style whilst mastering contrasting musical demands, dynamics and textures can stretch a choir\u2019s concentration over a long programme.\u00a0 We achieved it extremely well at St Columba\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Particular highlights for the choir\u2019s MD where Ola Gjeilo\u2019s <em>The Rose<\/em> \u201c\u2026a beautiful setting in which the choir blended so well\u2026\u201d, <em>The Skye Boat Song<\/em> arranged by Timothy Allen, \u201c\u2026was just terrific and a favourite with the audience\u2026\u201d, and Haydn\u2019s <em>Te Deum<\/em> \u201c\u2026was the best we\u2019ve sung it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The show climaxed with a superb performance of Richard Smallwood\u2019s gospel classic <em>Total Praise<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"587\" src=\"https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-1024x587.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1784\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-1024x587.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-768x440.jpg 768w, https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-1536x881.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-1568x899.jpg 1568w, https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-24x14.jpg 24w, https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-36x21.jpg 36w, https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas-48x28.jpg 48w, https:\/\/chordiality.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Chordiality-at-St-Columbas.jpg 1884w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Chordiality with their musical magic at St Columba&#8217;s Church in Halifax.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Talent within the ranks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks on the day went to a number of choir soloists who contributed pieces to the programme.&nbsp; These included soprano Jane Clark who revelled in Cole Porter\u2019s <em>It\u2019s All Right With Me<\/em> and alto Liz Leonard\u2019s emotional portrayal of the lamenting mother in the song <em>Tell Me It\u2019s Not True<\/em> from Willy Russell\u2019s musical <em>Blood Brothers<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stepping forward for their Chordiality solo debuts were alto Jean Krzemi\u0144ski with a delightful performance of George and Ira Gershwin\u2019s <em>Someone To Watch Over Me<\/em> and soprano Alexander Stevens who with beautiful voice sang <em>My Heart Will Go On<\/em>, the love theme from <em>The Titanic<\/em> (in Italian!) as a duet alongside bass John Ramsdin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A welcome addition to Matthew Coleridge\u2019s <em>Agnus Dei<\/em> was tenor Patrick Dylak who combined, on clarinet, with the concert\u2019s accompanist, Helen Orme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another very successful concert was the overall verdict of the choir\u2019s visit to St Columba\u2019s Church in Halifax, and, lots of money was raised for a good cause.
