Christmas comes but once a year and Chordiality will be spreading much cheer at its Christmas Concert to be held at First Martyrs Church in Heaton, Bradford (Heights Lane, BD9 6HZ) starting at 3pm on Sunday 17 December with seasonal fayre to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Christmas Concert is an extremely popular event amongst Chordiality followers and a good turnout is expected on the day.  Those wishing to attend are encouraged to book tickets early to avoid disappointment.<\/p>\n\n\n

The choir are well on with rehearsals for what will be a traditional, well-known festive programme complemented by audience carols and Yuletide readings, both amusing and reflective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Martyrs will echo to the joyful Sussex Carol<\/em>, the waits carol Past Three A-Clock<\/em>, the African American spiritual Kwmbayah<\/em> (Kumbaya<\/em>) and Scottish lullaby Scots Nativity<\/em> by Alan Bullard.<\/p>\n\n\n

English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams was an avid collector of English folk songs and the concert will include two of his popular Christmas works.  The singers will welcome in the season with the jolly Wassail Song<\/em>, believed to be based on an old Gloucestershire carol, and the equally well-known The Truth Sent From Above<\/em> which Vaughan Williams adapted from a Herefordshire carol.  The choir will sing an arrangement of the piece by Craig McLeish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The singers will also show off their a cappella talents with performances of John Tavener\u2019s famous carol The Lamb<\/em>, with lyrics from the William Blake poem, and Morten Lauridsen\u2019s motet O Magnum Mysterium<\/em>, based on a Gregorian chant for Christmas.  The concert will include Classic FM\u2019s \u2018the Nation\u2019s favourite carol\u2019 O Holy Night<\/em> and a beautiful adaptation of The First Noel<\/em> combined with Pachelbel\u2019s famous Canon in D<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
