For the last concert of the current season, Chordiality is on the road again, this time to Huddersfield and to a new venue for the singers.
St Patrick’s Church (New North Road, Huddersfield HD1 5JY) was opened in 1832 and was the first purpose-built Catholic church in the town.
Designed by Bradford architect Joseph Kaye in a thin Gothic revival style and built in ashlar stone with pitch slate roof, the church is styled with distinctive twin octagonal turrets and untraceried chamfered lancet windows.
Such was its architectural and historic significance that the church was designated as a Grade II listed building in 1952.
The church is presently undergoing major external and internal refurbishment in preparation for its 200th anniversary and proceeds from the concert will go towards this work.
The choir’s programme of works by contemporary composers has been wowing audiences across the region and will sit well in St Patrick’s fabulous acoustic.
In what is a varied repertoire the singers will perform the dynamic Sogno Di Volare by America composer Christopher Tin, Exsultate Jubilate by Sir Karl Jenkins and The Gathering Tree by award-winning English composer Rachel Portman.
Highlights at recent concerts will also make the repertoire including the singer’s performance of John Farnham’s You’re The Voice led by alto soloist Liz Leonard and the Guys And Dolls classic Sit Down You’re Rocking The Boat led by tenor soloist Robin Reid. Spiritual anthems (Dem) Dry Bones and timeless gospel hymn Total Praise have also been added.
